The Liberals and NDP have made no bones about their distaste with anything the Conservatives do that could be remotely considered as on side with Americans. And they take EVERY possible opportunity to criticize the government on anything that could be related to our neighbours to the south. Their incessant whining that we're "in bed" with the Americans, or that we're pro Bush is tiresome.
But where is the outrage over Ignatieff? Here's a guy who actually lived like an American, referred to himself as an American, has publicly voiced his desire to move back to the U.S. should he lose the leadership, and yet the Liberals are falling over themselves to make sure this guy becomes Prime Minister of Canada.
Heck, the CBC even likes him. In his report tonight on the state-run network, Keith Boag, Chief Political Correspondent referred to him as "world wide acclaimed academic" in the most heart warming context.
Ignatieff is more of an American than the average American! Someone please explain to me how this could possibly be good for Canada. Is this the best they could do? I mean, out of the 30 million or so people in this country they had to recruit someone from the U.S!
And they have the audacity to accuse us of being too close to the U.S!

I must be missing something, but Iggy seems mediocre AT BEST, in just about every leadership category I can think of. In some aspects, for example speaking too frankly, he is downright scary--at least to LPC members.
But let me repeat what I think was his most revealing lack of leadership qualities. Prior to the vote on extending the Afghan mission, he huddled with the 32 or so MPs who support him, and he couldn't convince them to vote in solidarity with him !
How the hell is he going to get all 100+ MPs to follow his lead on Afghanistan, should he become leader ? He can't do it, there's no way. And the LPC won't be united on any number of other issues under his leadership.
The guy just doesn't know how to play the political game, at least nowhere near Harper's level. I'll bet Iggy can't think fast on his feet either, in which case Harper is going to slice and dice him in the leadership debates.
It would be so sad if he wins and the Liberals still run an anti-American campaign. Thankfully it doesn't matter which garden gnome they pick they will never win.
