Canada's New Government's New Environmental Plan calls for the "banning" (I really dislike that word) of incandescent light bulbs. Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty recently announced the same thing.
Whose decree must I follow? Which "big brother" takes precedence. Why do we need two levels of government making the same decree? Was the division of powers removed from the constitution without my knowledge?
Perhaps this is beyond my simpleton ways. One other thing, did anyone notice we have Conservatives doing the same things as Liberals? Hmmm.

Yes the conservatives are very much a liberal party now. Maybee its time to think about voting libertarian. They wont get elected but at least I won't be disapointed when they break all their promises
This post is about lightbulbs - fluorescent bulbs don't work with dimmer switches (I've tried and they don't work - no dimming ability and they pulse). Dimmer lights are used in most presentation rooms in business and gov't buildings, and also in many homes. I'm quite surprised that no civil servant or politician realized this, but perhaps it just shows their separation from real life.
Don
My concern is the mercury used in them. Steven Milloy in the Financial Post did a good story yesterday, The CFL Mercury Nightmare. Just imagine the problems if one breaks. We'll all be like the Mad Hatter, with mercury poisoning if there is an accident. I am in the process of replacing all my lightbulbs as they burn out because I like to save a buck, but I hate the light that comes from them. It is not as soft as the GE. GE has announced that by 2009 they will have a more efficient bulb.
Any government that uses its power to ban to effect a change that it cannot do with reasoned logic has lost the faith of the people.
As free human beings, I will allow the market to determine my behaviour. If it costs me more to run the incandescent bulbs, that is my choice, as it is should I wish to drive a gas guzzling SUV.
From the liebrals(spelling intended) I expect it.
From the CPC I don't.
Conservatives doing the same things as Liberals? Oh my!
Politics 101: A political party shall never draw a line without blurring it.
